Google announced that it will allow any company to add their products to Google Shopping at no cost.
In an interview with The Verge , Google Business President Bill Ready said the company has been working on implementing this free service through Google Shopping for “some time.”
However, the coronavirus outbreak and the potential good that the company could do for people and traders
“For retailers, this change means free exposure to millions of people who access Google every day to meet their shopping needs. For shoppers, it means more products from more stores, which whatsapp database can be discovered in the Google Shopping tab,” says Ready.
“For advertisers, this means paid campaigns can now engage with free listings. If you’re already a Merchant Center and Shopping Ads user, you don’t need to do anything to take advantage of the free listings, and for new Merchant Center users, we’ll continue working to streamline the onboarding process in the coming weeks and months.”
First of all, it's good to make it clear: when we perform a search on Google's main page, the product results that appear at the top – with images, description and prices – will continue to be paid ads. The change will occur when we click on the “Shopping” or “Shopping” tab on the SERP.
Here, things will be somewhat similar to the results pages for other types of keywords. Paid advertisements will also appear prominently at the top and at the end. The difference is that “non-paid” products will also be listed, which is not the case today. More options for consumers and opportunities for small businesses.
The announcement regarding free Google Shopping does not clarify how these non-paying products will be listed. However, it can be assumed that we will have a model similar to the Google algorithm, returning the most relevant results for those doing the search.
